Imagine a jar of water. The water is clear, with dust at the bottom.

However, through the experience of our daily lives things happen which cause the jar to shake. As the jar is shaken the dust clouds the water. We can no longer see – our clarity has gone.

Often at this point we fall into misunderstanding.

Through ki meditation we first aim to settle the dirt down. We want to see things as they really are, not distorted by fear, anger, prejudice, and other such “impurities”.

I began attending Ki classes after I had been training in Hapkido for over a year. Having attended one of Master Chang's Ki seminars, I got it into my head that if I was serious about Hapkido, then I should do the Ki classes too.

Since starting Ki classes I notice how much more energy I have, how much more calmly, and therefore how much more effectively, I deal with the little things in day to day life (like those people who just stop at the top of an escalator, or the fact you forgot your umbrella and you're about to get a bit wet!).

Although class is definitely the best way to go, many of the things we do can be practised on the bus or train, during a tea break, or just in the five minutes before bed to relax you.

I put off starting Ki class because I thought it would be too much of a commitment. Not only is that not the case, but now I can't imagine not doing it!
